Mastering Quran Tajweed: A Divine Art at Hamd Academy
Tajweed (تَجْوِيد) is the science of reciting the Quran with perfect pronunciation, articulation, and rhythm, preserving the exact way it was revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
At Hamd Academy, we offer comprehensive Tajweed courses for men and women, both online and onsite, ensuring students recite the Quran correctly and beautifully.
The Importance of Tajweed in Quran Recitation
وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًۭا “And recite the Quran with measured recitation.” (Surah Al-Muzzammil 73:4)
The Prophet ﷺ said:
خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ “The best among you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5027)
Tajweed ensures: ✅ Correct pronunciation of Arabic letters (Makharij & Sifaat). ✅ Proper application of rules (Idgham, Ikhfa, Qalqalah, etc.). ✅ Preservation of the Quran’s original recitation.
Key Tajweed Rules Taught at Hamd Academy
1. Makharij al-Huroof (Articulation Points)
Learn where each Arabic letter originates (throat, tongue, lips).
Example: ق (Qaf) vs. ك (Kaf) – different throat positions.
2. Sifaat al-Huroof (Letter Characteristics)
Heavy (Tafkheem) vs. light (Tarqeeq) letters.
Example: ص (Sad) is heavy; س (Seen) is light.
3. Rules of Noon & Meem
Idgham (Merging): ن + ي → يّ (with Ghunnah)
Ikhfa (Hiding): ن + ت → nasalized sound.
4. Madd (Lengthening Vowels)
Madd Asli (Natural): 2 counts
Madd Far’i (Extended): 4–6 counts
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ فَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟ لَهُۥ وَأَنصِتُوا۟ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ “When the Quran is recited, listen to it attentively and be silent so you may receive mercy.” (Surah Al-A’raf 7:204)
